Stage Presentation
Transcript: Concrete Cylinders - Have to test each different batch produced - Each batch has different requirements - For each batch = slump, air content, temperature, density, concrete cylinders. - Air content is always 5-8% - Slump is +/- 30mm for normal concrete, +/- 50mm for self consolidating concrete - We would make 5 cylinders, 1 for 7-day strength, 2 for 28-day strength, and 2 for 1-day strength - Place the cylinders in a water basin Freeze-Thaw - Test for each fine aggregate sample - Half fines, Half 3% NaOH - Leave it overnight to sit - Observe on color wheel Chris Kurys - Sieve Analysis / Wash Sieving - ACI testing - Freeze-thaw - Sampling - Compression tests - Organic Matter test - The job was very repetitive, but it was ok - Having the ACI certification helped - Wait until next year to learn new things History of the Company Random Sampling Sheet Chris Kurys Sieve Analysis / Wash Sieve Stage Evaluation Testing fresh concrete BNQ Norms - 3 cylinders were made - They were tested at 14 and 28-days - Mixed with 3% NaCl - Cylinder can't touch edges of Tupperware Conclusion - 1-day strength = 20 MPa the next morning - Rest of cylinders go to lab for demolding - I did all the compression tests What I Did over the Summer - Get aggregates from stockpiles from all the plants - Seperate and label them - Different for all types of aggregates - Coarse aggregates = 1 layer - Fine aggregates 2 layers - First Plant in 1956 by Roch Lécuyer - Second Plant in 1989 , PBL - Third Plant in 2000, BLI - Fourth Plant in 2011, TBQ - Lab started in 2001 - New lab in our own building last summer Stage Presentation Organic Matter - Have to test all 8 samples once a week - Each test must conform to specifications ACI Testing Organigram
